How To Do A Competitive Analysis Of Another Blawg

Almost all of the lawyers and law firms that I have worked with do not have one thing. TIME. So here’s a quick way of doing a simple competitive analysis of another blawg using just the Google Toolbar.

  1. Download the Google Toolbar either for FireFox or Internet Explorer and install it.

  2. Start your web browser - FireFox or Internet Explorer and type in the web address of the blawg that you are analyzing. In my case, I chose PrawfsBlawg to do a competitive analysis.

  3. View the Page Rank (PR) which shows the importance of the page as assigned by Google. In my case, PrawfsBlawg has a PR of 5 which is pretty good.

  4. View the number of back links by clicking the “Page Rank” drop-down and choosing “Backward Links”. In my example, PrawfsBlawg has 8,200 back links which is quite impressive.

  5. How to use the competitive data: Now that you have the data on who links to your competition, you can approach those sites to link to your blawg. Also see what type of articles/content that they link to and try to recreate similar articles/content on your blog.
