Building Your Blawg With Blogger - A Tutorial For Beginners
A step-by-step guide with tips and tricks to build a blawg on Google’s Blogger platform from scratch and customize it so that your blawg looks different than a standard blog on Blogger.
- Go to Blogger and either login (if you have an existing Google account) or sign up (an existing email address is required).
- Name your blog. You are required to fill in the blog name and the address which can be checked for availability. Click the Continue button.
Note: For beginner’s it is recommended to skip the Advance Blog Setup step as it requires knowledge on FTP and hosting.
- Choose a template you like the most and preview it. At this point it doesn’t matter which template you choose because it can be changed or customized later. Click the Continue button.
Note: For this tutorial, I am choosing Minima and I’ll later show you where to get more advanced and customized templates.
- Your blawg is now created and you can start posting and you can see the one I created in less than 5 minutes at http://diyblawgs.blogspot.com/.
Tips and Tricks
Now that your blawg is created, you may want to customize the template. To quickly customize the template, follow the steps below.
- Download an XML template, for example, I used the Andreas08 Blogger Template.
- Open the XML file in an editor like NotePad. Highlight (CTRL + A) and copy (CTRL + C)
- On your Blogger dashboard, click the ‘Template’ tab and the ‘Edit HTML’ link. Clear the ‘Edit Template’ box and paste the code you copied in the step above. Click the ‘Save Template’ button and your new look blawg is up and running.

In the next post, I’ll select and list out a bunch of customized blogger templates that you can use for your blawg. In the meantime, if you have any questions then contact me.
